About LAWMA

Lagos Waste Management Authority

LAWMA is the foremost waste management agency in Lagos State, mandated to ensure a clean, healthy and sustainable environment for all residents and visitors of Lagos.

Our History

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) was established by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority Law of 2007. It was born from the Lagos State Refuse Disposal Board (LSRDB), which had operated since 1977. Today, LAWMA oversees the collection, treatment, and final disposal of all forms of solid waste across Lagos State — the most populous city in Africa.

Over the decades, LAWMA has expanded its mandate to include enforcement of environmental sanitation standards, management of construction-site waste compliance, and strategic partnerships with private sector operators (PSPs) to ensure last-mile waste collection in all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas of Lagos.
